This Truancy Resource Pack for schools includes comprehensive guidelines and resources to help your school combat truancy and reduce absenteeism. Over 25% of schools throughout NZ are using this resource pack and now is the time that your school should take advantage of our systems and guidelines to assist you in eliminating truancy and improving attendance.

It's Effective: A recent survey of NZ schools has shown that ALL schools that have fully implemented our resources have had a reduction in truancy and non-authorised absences.

The main areas on which these resources concentrate are:

• The responsibility of the parent to abide by the law and to ensure their children attend school.



• The responsibility of the student to be at school during school hours.



• The Social Responsibility of the local business community to assist your school in combating non-authorised absenteeism.

An online truancy reporting system is also included to link other agencies, the Police and businesses and caring citizens to your school's Attendance Officer through a personalised email contact form

The Truancy Resource Pack can be used in any school and is designed in such a way as to enable easy reproduction of its contents in order to join forces with your school's local community in the battle against unauthorised absenteeism and youth offending during school hours.

Many reasons for absenteeisms that have been classified as "authorised" in the past should no longer be looked upon as such. The CEPNZ does not believe that reasons such as benefit day, shopping day, needed at home or the 'best' time to take a holiday, are good enough. It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that their child receives the best possible education and the first part of that responsibility is to ensure that their children are enrolled in and attend school.

Documents within this Resource Pack will help to prevent this type of absence from taking place and Terminate Truancy.

Many offenses committed by youth in the community (such as shop lifting or car theft) take place during the school day. Once again, these offenses would not take place if these children were in school. The thorough implementation of the resources in our Pack will help to reduce the chances of this occurring.
